Santiago Shines For Cal Poly

Cal Poly's Kristina Santiago (Santa Maria, Calif./Righetti HS) collected her second Big West Women's Basketball Player of the Week accolade of the 2009-10 season after displaying career-best performances in the Mustangs' 2-1 week. Santiago is the first multiple winner this season.

The junior forward opened Big West play draining a career-high 11 free throws to lead the Mustangs to a 73-61 win over UC Irvine. She posted her first of two double-doubles on the week, tallying 19 points and 11 rebounds in 38 minutes of play.

At Pacific, Santiago had another stellar performance with a personal-best 13 rebounds to lead the squad. She was unstoppable on offense as well, going 11-of-18 from the field (.611) and scoring a game-high 27 points to post back-to-back double-doubles and guide the Mustangs to a 63-53 victory.

She saved her best performance for last, matching a career single-game high for points (29) and steals (5) and establishing new career-highs for field goals (13) and shot attempts (20) in Cal Poly's 77-72 loss to UC Davis. Santiago also tallied eight rebounds and was a perfect 3-for-3 from the free throw line.

For the week, Santiago shot .519 from the field and .826 from the charity stripe, while averaging 25.0 points, 10.7 rebounds and 3.0 steals per contest.
