Opening the 2009 Hilton Stockton Invitational, the Pacific women's volleyball team picked up a convincing 3-0 sweep of Cal State Bakersfield on Thursday, September 17. With the win the Tigers moved to 8-1 on the year while the Roadrunners fell to 7-6 overall.

No. 18 UC Irvine rallied to force a deciding game but fell short in a 3-2 (25-9, 25-15, 23-25, 22-25, 8-15) upset against 23rd-ranked San Diego Thursday at the Jenny Craig Pavilion. The Anteaters dropped to 9-2 on the season, suffering their second loss to a ranked team this season while the Toreros climbed to 6-3 overall.
