Three repeat winners and a first timer headline the weekly softball awards this week as Krysten Cary of Cal Poly won her second Big West Player of the Week accolade this season, while Cal Poly's Anna Cahn and UC Santa Barbara's Krista Cobb each collected their fourth Big West Pitcher of the Week honor of 2009. Cal State Fullerton's Francesca Gonzales also claimed her first Big West Player of the Week award, the initial weekly award of the season.
CP's Cary; CSF's Gonzales Nab Big West Weekly Player Honors
Cal Poly first baseman Krysten Cary (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif./Trabuco Hills HS) and Cal State Fullerton infielder Francesca Gonzales (El Monte, Calif./Mt. SAC) parlayed big weeks at the plate into Big West Player of the Week accolades.
Cary, a junior, had a huge offensive impact in the Mustangs' sweep of Long Beach State. She opened the series with the eventual game-winning homer in Cal Poly's 1-0 win, then added a RBI in the Mustangs' 2-1 game two victory. Cary wrapped up the series with the game-winning run in the 2-1 Cal Poly win in the finale.
Gonzales, a junior, was a key component in the Titan sweep of UC Davis. She went 3-for-4 in the opener, collecting a homer, three RBI and scoring twice in the 10-3 win.
After picking up a hit in game two, Gonzales wrapped up the series with a 2-for-3 effort, hitting another homer, knocking in two runs and scoring another. Her hit outburst extended her hit-streak to 10 and she posted a 1.091 slugging percentage for the series.

CP's Cahn, UCSB's Cobb Share Weekly Pitching Honor
Cal Poly's Anna Cahn (Los Alamitos, Calif./Los Alamitos HS) and UC Santa Barbara's Krista Cobb (West Hills, Calif./El Camino Real HS) shared the BIg West Pitcher of the Week honor after both turned in impressive performances last week.
Cahn, a sophomore, delivered two clutch performances against the former first place club Long Beach State, propelling the Mustangs into a tie for the first place slot. She opened up the series with a 1-0 complete game win, allowing just five hits and walking one.
Cahn then bookended the series with a 2-1 complete game win in the finale. She allowed three hits, one run (earned), walked three and struck out a pair. Over her two starts against LBSU, Cahn did not allow an extra-base hit.
Cobb, a freshman, put up three solid outings over the week, going 3-0 in those contests. She kicked off her week with a two-hit shutout of Fresno State, striking out five and walking one in the 1-0 win.
Cobb also picked up a pair of wins in UCSB’s conference set against Cal State Northridge. She came on in relief in game one, pitching 3.2 innings of three-hit shutout relief and striking out five. Cobb then started game two, getting another "W" after allowing just three hits and striking out two in another shutout victory.
