A pair of athletes who were clutch both in and out of conference play took the Big West weekly softball honors as Krysten Cary of Cal Poly was named the Player of the Week and Krista Cobb of UC Santa Barbara was named the Pitcher of the Week.
Cary's Big Flies Lead Cal Poly Offensive Surge

Krysten Cary (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif./Trabuco Hills HS) was the catalyst to a big offensive week for the Mustangs, netting her Big West Player of the Week honors.
The junior picked up a hit in each of Cal Poly's six games last week, including three big flies which upped her league-best total to 11. Her first homer of the week was part of a five-RBI effort in the first of two games against Santa Clara. She then followed that up with a three-run shot against the Broncos in the night cap.
Cary's final homer of the week was a clutch grand slam, as it provided the Mustangs with the winning runs in the conference series finale against Cal State Fullerton.
For the week, Cary hit .412 (7-17) with three homers, 12 RBI, six runs scored and a pair of walks.

Cobb Leads UCSB to Big Non-Conference Win and Big West Victories
UC Santa Barbara pitcher Krista Cobb (West Hills, Calif./El Camino Real HS) piloted the Gauchos to several key wins over the course of last week, netting Big West Pitcher of the Week accolades in the process.
Cobb started her week with a bang, allowing just six hits and two runs in UCSB’s 7-2 win over #5/4 UCLA. She also picked up a non-conference win over Santa Clara after alloweing just two hits and no runs in the 6-0 triumph.
The freshman then started the game one win over UC Riverside in both clubs’ Big West opener, a 4-1 UCSB win. Cobb allowed just one earned run, four hits and struck out nine in the victory. All told in the conference series, she allowed just two earned runs and nine hits.
For the week, Cobb went 4-1 with a 1.09 ERA in 26.2 innings. She allowed 10 runs (four earned) and struck out 23 against 10 walks.
