Trio Share Men's Honors, Matzenauer Earns Women's Tennis Accolades

Lopez, Andres and Finkelstein Share Honors

The Big West named Men's Tennis Tri-Athletes of the Week as UC Davis sophomore Nick Lopez (Orinda, Calif./Miramonte HS), UC Riverside freshman Austin Andres (San Jose, CA/Valley Christian School) and UC Santa Barbara junior Josh Finkelstein (Los Angeles, CA/Hong Kong International) posted worthy efforts.
   
Lopez posted a 2-1 record in singles and went 1-2 in doubles for the Aggies.  He defeated Portland's Brian Thorp 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles and Portland State's Chris Rice 7-6, 5-7, 6-2 at No. 1 singles.  He and partner Hunter Lee won a doubles match at No. 2 against Portland State.
   
Andres was unbeaten in two singles and two doubles matches agaisnt Vanguard and Riverside CC.  Against Vanguard, he was the only Highlander to win in singles.
   
Finkelstein posted a 2-1 record at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Austin, Texas.  He defeated Yannick Yoshizawa from South Florida's No. 28-ranked team, winning 6-7, 7-6, 13-11.

Cal Poly's Matzenauer Wins In Big West Opener

Junior Suzie Matzenauer (Tacoma, Wash./Northwestern) notched Big West Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week honors after going 2-0 in singles and doubles for Cal Poly in its conference opener.
   
Matzenauer, a transfer from Northwestern, posted a straight set 6-2, 6-0 victory against Cal State Northridge's Evgeniya Vertesheva at No. 1 singles.  She teamed with Amy Markhoff at No. 2 doubles and the duo dispatched Nina Jaworowski and Nigora Sirojiddinova, 8-5.  The Mustangs swept the match 7-0 and avenged a 4-3 loss to the Matadors in 2008.
