Alyssa Morris (Fresno, Calif./Edison HS) guided UC Riverside to a 1-1 week over the holiday break to earn Big West Women's Basketball Player of the Week accolades, for the week ending Dec. 27.
The junior guard opened the week with a 10-point, five-rebound performance that lifted the Highlanders to a 65-53 home victory over Pac-10's Arizona. She also shot .500 from the field and dished five assists.
Later in the week she drained 20 points, three shy of a career best, and pulled down six rebounds in UC Riverside's loss to Montana State. She scored 13 of her 20 points in the second half where the Highlanders rallied from a 17-point deficit to cut the lead to three before eventually falling to the Bobcats, 82-74. Morris posted an impressive .750 clip after going 9-for-12 from the floor. Her nine field goals made were a career-high, and her .750 (9-of-12) field goal percentage tied her season-best.
For the week, Morris led the Highlanders in points, rebounds, assists, and field goal percentage and tallied back-to-back double-figure scoring games for the second time this year.
