Long Beach State senior
Stephan Gilling (Chino Hills, Calif./Colorado State) captured Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week accolades thanks to his three-point shooting prowess, which included tying the school's single-game mark for most threes made in a game.
Gilling drained eight treys in 14 attempts en route to a career-high 28 points, leading the 49ers to a 96-61 rout of Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday. He scored 25 of his points in the first half. Gilling finished 10 of 17 from the field for the game while adding two rebounds, two assists and a steal. His eight three-pointers tied two others in Long Beach State lore for the single game record - Tony Darden versus Pepperdine (12/2/02) and Morlon Wiley versus UC Santa Barbara (2/5/87).
On Monday, Gilling led Long Beach State with 18 points in a 107-74 loss at No. 2 Texas. He accounted for all of his points on six threes.
For the week, Gilling averaged 23.0 points per game. All but two of his 16 field goals came from three-point range. He shot 53.8% (14 of 26) from three-point land.
Gilling leads the Big West both in three-pointers made (34) and three-pointers made per game (3.8)
