Dana Sanderlin (Upland, Calif./Upland HS) received her first career Big West Women's Soccer Player of the Week award as she played a role in four of the five goals that UC Irvine scored in a 1-1 conference-opening weekend.
Sanderlin had one goal and three assists combined in UCI's 3-0 victory at home on Friday and 3-2 double-overtime loss to Cal Poly on Sunday.
The Anteater midfielder totalled three assists in the win over the Gauchos. The three assists tied the UCI single match record and tied for second-most in a match in Big West history. Sanderlin was the second Big West player to accomplish the feat this season, joining UC Davis forward Rochelle VanBuskirk, who had three helpers at Eastern Washington on Sept. 13.
Sanderlin's assists occurred in the 37th, 47th and 49th minutes against UC Santa Barbara.
Sanderlin posted her team-high tying fifth goal of the year in the loss to the Mustangs. Her score gave the Anteaters a 1-0 lead early in the second half.
Her 14 points for the season leads the team and ranks fourth in the Big West.
Others nominated: Julianne Grinstead (Cal Poly); Brisa Gonzalez (Cal State Fullerton); Farryn Townley (Cal State Northridge); Shawna Gordon (Long Beach State); Maricela Padilla (Pacific)
