Tammy Lenham (Hermosa Beach, CA/Mira Costa HS) earned Big West Women's Soccer Player of the Week honors as her performances in goal helped UC Santa Barbara stay in contention for the conference regular season title.
Lenham posted a 0.45 goals against average for the week as the Gauchos defeated UC Davis 4-1 and tied Pacific 0-0 in two Big West road contests.
She faced 10 shots and made three saves in the victory over the Aggies. The only goal she allowed was on a penalty kick by Big West scoring leader Rochelle VanBuskirk, who converted for her 13th goal of the season.
Lenham shone in the double overtime scoreless tie in Stockton as she negated several good scoring chances by the Tigers. With Pacific owning a 21-8 advantage in shots, Lenham stepped up and made saves on all 12 shots the Tigers had on frame.
The 12 saves were a career-high for Lenham and the most by a Gaucho goalkeeper in 2009. The total also ties for the second-most in the Big West this year.
UC Santa Barbara now carries a six-game Big West unbeaten streak into a showdown with Central Coast rival Cal Poly on Sunday.
Others nominated: Afton Thulin (Cal Poly); Cynthia Jacobo (Cal State Northridge)
