Cal State Fullerton senior Josh Akognon (Petaluma, CA/Washington State/Casa Grande HS) captured his third Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week of the season after leading the Titans to a rare road sweep of two Central Coast opponents and achieving a personal scoring milestone.

The 5-11 guard averaged 27.5 points in wins over Cal Poly (86-82) and UC Santa Barbara (62-58).  He shot 45.2 percent (19-of-42) from the field and 45.5 percent (9-of-22) from three-point range as the Titans swept the Central Coast trip for only the second time in 13 years.

Akognon, who scored 26 points against Cal Poly, collected his 1,000th Titan career point when his bucket with 1:40 left gave Fullerton an 81-79 lead.  After the Mustangs tied the game 81-81, Akognon gave the Titans the lead for good as his two free throws with 34 seconds to play put CSF up 83-81.

Akognon hit five three-pointers en route to a 29-point effort versus UCSB.  He scored 20 of his points in the second half, just one less than the entire Gauchos team (21).  The outburst helped Fullerton rally from a 37-30 halftime deficit.  An Akognon trey gave the Titans their first lead at 46-44, another three squashed UCSB’s last lead to make it 53-52 and another three-pointer gave them a lead - 58-55 - they would not relinquish.

Others nominated: Tremaine Townsend (Cal State Northridge); Donovan Morris (Long Beach State); Mark Payne (UC Davis); Michael Hunter (UC Irvine); Chad Troyer (Pacific)
