Season-Best Performance Earns Gbweonyo Big West Weekly Award

Seyram Gbewonyo led UC Riverside to a 2-0 record last week that kept a perfect home record (4-0) intact for the UC Riverside Highlanders, earning her Big West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week accolades. Collecting her first career weekly award, Gbewonyo becomes the second Highlander to receive the honor this season. Teammate Kemie Nkele was named player of the week Nov. 17 and Dec. 8.

Spearheaded by a 5-of-10 performance from three-point range, she scored a season-high and game-high 19 points in the win over UC Davis. She also dished a game-high seven assists and added six rebounds to her total. Two days later against Pacific, the 5-10 guard drained eight points and tallied two rebounds and two steals.

For the week, the Sylmar, Calif., native posted a .381 field goal percentage, while averaging 13.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per contest.
