UC Davis midfielder
Dylan Curtis (Pleasanton, Calif./Amador Valley HS) and UC Irvine goalkeeper
Andrew Fontein (Las Vegas, Nev./Sierra Vista HS) had big weekends against common opposition on their way to Big West Men's Soccer Co-Players of the Week accolades.
Curtis, a senior, led the Aggies to a 2-0 record at The Soccer Post/Aztec Classic last weekend in San Diego. He opened up the tournament with the game-winning goal via penalty kick in overtime in UCD's 2-1 win over San Diego. He followed that effort up with a pair of assists, including on the game-winning tally, in the Aggies' 2-1 win over San Diego State. That marked his fourth two-assist match of the season.
Fontein, a freshman, was equally impressive in the Anteaters' two wins against the same two clubs at the tournament.
In the first match against San Diego State, he made two saves to keep the Aztecs off the board in UCI's 2-0 win. He then followed that effort with five saves to blank San Diego on the way to a 1-0 UC Irvine victory. The two shutouts marked the first two blankings of Fontein's young career.
