Cal State Fullerton sophomore goalkeeper Shannon Simpson (Irvine, Calif./Irvine HS) earned Big West Women's Soccer Player of the Week honors as she posted a 1-0 shutout win against Pepperdine in the season opener for both teams on Saturday.

Simpson, making only her fourth career start and her first since October 12, 2007, logged four saves in notching her first career shutout.  Her most important save came late in the match when she stopped Amanda Rupp's penalty kick attempt that would have tied the contest.

Simpson faced a total of 14 shots by the Pepperdine offense and had two of them cleared off the line by her defense.  Her performance helped the Titans end a four-match winless streak against the Waves dating back to 1996 and post their first win in Malibu since 1994.
