The final Big West softball weekly awards of the 2008 season have a familar feel to them as UC Santa Barbara's Tiffany Wright won her third weekly honor of the '08 campaign, while Long Beach State's Brooke Turner claimed her conference-record eighth weekly award.
Wright Leads UCSB Past CSF in Conference Finale
UC Santa Barbara outfielder Tiffany Wright (Corona, Calif./Santiago HS) led the Gauchos to an impressive season-ending conference series win over Cal State Fullerton last weekend, netting Wright her second straight Big West Player of the Week award.
The junior began her series with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate and scored a pair of runs in UCSB’s 8-5 win in game one. She then added another trio of hits, including a homer and double, and three RBI in the Gauchos’ 10-6 loss.
Wright then led UC Santa Barbara to the win in the series finale with another three-hit showing. Among those hits was another home run and a double to go along with her five RBI.
For the series, Wright batted .692 (9-13) with two home runs, eight RBI, four runs scored and a pair of doubles.

Turner Makes History with Eighth Pitcher of the Week Nod
Record-setting Long Beach State pitcher Brooke Turner (Buena Park, Calif./Kennedy HS) added another mark to her impressive ledger as she was named Big West Pitcher of the Week for a conference single-season record eighth time.
The freshman picked up a pair of wins over Pacific last weekend, tying her for the most in a season in program history.
In her first start, she allowed just four hits and no runs over seven innings in the 49ers’ 5-0 win. She struck out eight and walked one while facing just five batters over the minimum.
Turner's second start was a lot like the first, a four-hit complete game shutout. In that start she struck out seven and walked two to record her 17th blanking of the season, another single season LBSU record.
