As was the case in the previous week, UC Santa Barbara and Long Beach State claimed the Big West weekly softball honors as UCSB's Tiffany Wright claimed the Player of the Week, while LBSU's Brooke Turner tied the single-season record for weekly honors with her seventh Pitcher of the Week award.
Wright Leads UCSB to Sweep of Defending Champion Cal Poly
UC Santa Barbara outfielder
Tiffany Wright (Corona, Calif./Santiago HS) bat was key in the Gauchos' sweep over defending Big West champion Cal Poly last weekend, netting her league Player of the Week honors.
The junior opened up the series with a 2-for-3 effort which included a homer, a season-best three RBI, two runs scored and a walk in UCSB’s thrilling 7-6 victory.
After picking up another hit and a stolen base in game two, Wright hit what would be the game-winning homer in the 2-1 Gaucho win in the series finale.
For the week, Wright hit .500 (4-8) with two homers, four RBI, three runs scored, a walk and a stolen base. She has hit safely in each of UC Santa Barbara’s six conference games and has hit four of her seven homers this season in league play.

Turner Ties Big West Record with Seventh Weekly Honor
Long Beach State pitcher
Brooke Turner (Buena Park, Calif./Kennedy HS) reached a rare standard after her outstanding effort last weekend as she was named Big West Pitcher of the Week for a record-tying seventh time. Turner now stands atop the record books with her sister Michelle who won seven times in 2006.
The freshman pitcher shut down Cal State Northridge in her two starts over the weekend. Her first outing was a complete game two-hitter where she walked none and struck out 10, the sixth time this season she has reached 10 or more strikeouts in a game.
Turner was just as stellar in her second outing, a complete game effort where she allowed four hits, walked one and struck out seven.
Turner's efforts were even more impressive considering both were 1-0 LBSU victories.
