Cal Poly knocked off UC Davis 4-0 in a quarterfinal match of the Big West Men's Tennis Championship at Indian Wells Tennis Garden on Friday. The fourth-seeded Mustangs move on to face top-seeded UC Santa Barbara on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
The Mustangs garnered the doubles point with wins from their No. 1 team of Darryn Young and Rob Foy, and No. 2 duo of Andy Gerst and Alexander Sonesson. Young and Foy topped Michael Reiser and Dan Elefant, 8-4. Gerst and Sonesson wrapped up the point with their 8-5 triumph against Henri Landes and Justin Garcia.
The first match to finish in singles occurred at No. 3 where Drew Jacobs defeated Garcia 6-2, 6-3. Gerst dispatched Landes at No. 1 singles shortly thereafter, winning 6-2, 6-2. Cal Poly clinched the match at No. 6 singles. After winning the first set 6-4, Tyler Lee lost the second set 6-2 and was forced to retire prior to the third due to cramping.
Cal Poly is now 12-9 on the year. UC Davis finishes its first season in the Big West at 10-13.

The third-seeded Pacific men's tennis team battled to a 4-2 victory against sixth-seeded UC Riverside in quarterfinal action of the Big West Men's Tennis Championship on Friday at Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
In doubles action, Pacific opened with a win at the No. 3 position when Artem Gramma and Vegerd Veskimagi beat Jack Tadevosian and Sebastian Ko, 8-1. However, the Highlanders captured the doubles point by rebounding with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. The clinching point came at No. 1 when Joe Cartledge and Ahmad Shiraz outlasted Moritz Starke and Renan Delsin, 8-6.
However, Pacific won four of the five singles contests to pull out the victory. At No. 3, Delsin rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win against Tadevosian and Gramma knocked off John Park by a 6-2, 6-3 score. The Tigers also picked up victories at No. 2 and No. 5. David Gonzalez won 6-4, 6-3 against Gorjan Kovacevic at No. 2. Veskimagi clinched the match at No. 5 after toppling Quoc Doan by a 6-4, 7-6 (3) score.
Shiraz tallied the other point for the Highlanders in his 6-4, 6-2 triumph against the Tigers' Austin Kakar.
Pacific improved to 10-11 on the year while UC Riverside ended its season at 7-14. The Tigers advance to Saturday's semifinals against No. 2 UC Irvine with match time at 3:00 p.m.
