UC Santa Barbara took over the lead in the 2007-08 Big West Commissioner’s Cup race after claiming all four winter championship titles. The Gauchos won the men’s swimming, women’s swimming, women’s basketball titles outright and shared the men’s basketball title with Cal State Fullerton and Cal State Northridge. The Gauchos hold a 145.1-point average through the winter season.
Long Beach State is in second place in the Commissioner’s Cup standings with a 110.0-point average after having the lead during the fall season. The 49ers won the women’s soccer regular season title and placed second in women’s volleyball.
Cal Poly rests in third place with a 102.2-point scoring average after a strong fall season. The Mustangs won the women’s volleyball and men’s cross country titles.
Cal State Fullerton (98.0) rests in fourth place in the standings after claiming a share of the men’s basketball regular season title. two third place finishes in women’s cross country and women’s volleyball. Following Cal State Fullerton in the standings are UC Irvine (92.2), UC Riverside (88.6), Pacific (87.1), UC Davis (73.3) and Cal State Northridge (56.2).
The Big West Commissioner’s Cup, which started during the 1998-99 season, is presented at the end of the spring season to the institution with the top overall point average tallied from Big West Conference Championships. To determine the champion for the Commissioner’s Cup, total points are summed and divided by the number of championships in which each institution competes. Each sport champion is also given a 20-point bonus.
