Young Wins Twice As Cal Poly Defeats Rival UC Santa Barbara

Darryn Young (Durban, South Africa) captured Big West Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week honors as his play helped Cal Poly to a key win over rival and fellow conference contender UC Santa Barbara.
In its 5-2 defeat of the Gauchos, Cal Poly turned to Young in No. 2 singles as he delivered a 7-6, 6-3 victory over Philip Therp. At the No. 1 doubles spot, Young partnered with Robert Foy in a 9-7 triumph versus Therp and Jack Hui.
Young, who is 6-2 on the year in singles, has won three consecutive matches.
Bartlett Clinches Three UC Irvine Victories In Busy Week Of Play

Brooke Bartlett (Fountain Valley, Calif./Fountain Valley HS) won the deciding singles match in all three UC Irvine team victories to garner her first career Big West Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week award.
Bartlett registered a 4-0 week at No. 4 and No. 5 singles while going 2-1 in No. 3 doubles as the Anteaters defeated Nevada (4-3), No. 51 San Diego State (5-2) and San Francisco (5-2). The only setback on the week was in a 4-3 affair to No. 48 Saint Mary's.
Her first two victories of the week went the distance. Against Nevada's Lais Ogata, Bartlett produced a 6-2, 5-7, 7-5 victory in the No. 5 singles match. Two days later, Bartlett defeated San Diego State's Sisse Nielsen in another three-set marathon - by scores of 6-2, 6-7, 6-3.
Bartlett moved up to the No. 4 position in the next two contests and didn't lose any momentum. She also won 6-3, 6-2 win against Jenny Sperry of San Francisco and followed up with her fourth win of the week, a 6-4, 6-7, 6-4 nailbiter against Saint Mary's Marah Calvo.
Teaming with Ali Borowicz, Bartlett won doubles matches against duos from San Francisco and Saint Mary's to complete an extremely successful week.
