Following solid efforts at the Judi Garman Classic, two Cal State Fullerton softball players claimed the weekly conference awards as Sheila Holguin claimed the Player of the Week honor, while Christine Hiner garnered pitcher of the week accolades.
Holguin Provides Key Offense for CSF at Garman Classic

Sheila Holguin (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Rancho Cucamonga HS) delivered her best offensive week of the season against quality opposition on the way to the Big West Player of the Week award.
The sophomore opened up her week with a pair of hits and scored a run against New Mexico, then collected two three-hit outings against ranked foes in #19 Fresno State and #7 Arizona. Against the Wildcats, Holguin tripled in the winning run against the defending national champions, then scored the decisive run later in the inning. She also collected a RBI and a double against the Bulldogs.
For the week, Holguin batted .692 (9-13) with two RBI, three runs scored, a double and two triples. Her batting average led the tournament and raised her season average 59 points to .306.
Hiner Shuts Down #7 Arizona at Garman Classic

Christine Hiner (Garden Grove, Calif./Pacifica HS) made her first start in over a week count as she stopped the defending national champion #7 Arizona Wildcats on the way to the Big West Pitcher of the Week award.
The freshman went the distance against UA, allowing just three hits, one run, one earned run and striking out six against no walks. The powerful Arizona lineup batted just .120 against Hiner and had two baserunners stranded in scoring position.
The victory also snapped a four-start losing string for Hiner.
