Wheeler Leads Titans to Impressive Season-Opening Results

Cal State Fullerton outfielder Jenna Wheeler (Anaheim, Calif./Lorara HS) was a key part of the Titans' impressive season-opening performance at the CSF/UCLA Freeway Series on her way to Player of the Week accolades.

The senior picked up multiple hits in three of the four CSF contests. Her best showing was a 2-for-3, two-run, two-RBI outing in Cal State Fullerton’s 10-2 win over #5 Oklahoma. She also picked up two hits against Nevada and Santa Clara, as well as scoring runs in both of those games.

For the week, Wheeler batted .583 (7-12) with three RBI, four runs scored and added a double.

LBSU’s Turner Makes History in Debut

Long Beach State pitcher Brooke Turner (Buena Park, Calif./Kennedy) looked like a seasoned pro in her first two collegiate starts on her way to Big West Pitcher of the Week honors.

The freshman started her 49er career with a bang as she struck out 15 in LBSU's 6-0 win over San Diego. The number set a 49er single game record. She allowed only two hits and walked one in the game as well.

Turner was a tough luck loser in her second start against #17 Stanford. She allowed four hits and one run in six innings, while striking out six and allowing just three walks.

For the week, Turner tallied a 0.69 ERA in 13.0 innings, allowed just six hits, one runs, four walks and struck out 21of 49 batters faced.
