Long Beach State senior Donovan Morris (San Bernardino, CA/Fresno State) earned Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week accolades for the second straight week, leading the 49ers with two 20-point performances.
Morris scored 20 points against Pepperdine and 21 versus San Francisco to lead the 49ers to a 1-1 week. It was the fourth and fifth straight games that Morris had reached the 20-point mark. He has led Long Beach State in scoring in all seven games this season.
He shot an impressive 56.0% (14 of 25) from the field, including 55.6% (5 of 9) from three-point range despite numerous double teams from the opponents. In addition, he made 8 of 9 attempts from the free throw line. Morris also averaged 5.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.
Against Pepperdine, Morris made 7 of 10 from the field and 4 of 6 from three-point range in an 80-61 victory, the fourth in a row for LBSU.
That winning streak was snapped at San Francisco three nights later in a 78-74 double overtime loss. Morris paced the team with 21 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals.
This is the fourth career Player of the Week award for Morris.
