Long Beach State's Courtney Jacob and Cal Poly's Megan Harrison were both explosive on offense during the Thanksgiving holiday, earning them Big West Women’s Basketball Co-Player of the Week accolades. While Harrison collects her second career weekly award, Jacob picks up her first honor.
In Long Beach State's contest versus Loyola Marymount, the Naples, Fla., native poured in a career-high 30 points on a 10-for-18 (.556) shooting performance, including 6-for-12 from behind the arc. Jacob, who was responsible for all but one of LBSU’s three-point baskets on the evening, also added nine rebounds and a career-best six assists. The 5-11 guard becomes the first 49er to reach the 30-point threshold since 2003. On the young season, Jacob paces the 49er squad with 19.7 points and 1.7 blocks per game.
Harrison guided the Cal Poly Mustangs to a 2-1 week, including a 2-0 record at their home tournament Courtyard By Marriott San Luis Obispo Holiday Beach Classic. Following a mid-week outing against UCLA, the Dripping Springs, Texas, native sparked the Mustangs squad over the weekend with two stellar performances. In Cal Poly’s first tournament game against Missouri-Kansas City, Harrison drained 16 points and grabbed five rebounds. The following evening versus former Big West foe Idaho, the 6-1 forward tallied 17 points, four assists and two rebounds.
For the week, Harrison led Cal Poly in points (39), points per game (13.0), field goal percentage (.484) and minutes per game (27.3). She picked up tournament most valuable player honors after leading the squad in scoring in Cal Poly’s wins over UMKC and Idaho.
