Cal Poly, UC Davis completes Cross Country Season at NCAA Championships

The 2008 cross country season officially came to a close Monday as the NCAA Championships were held in Terre Haute, Ind. The Big West had the Cal Poly men's team and two UC Davis individuals on the women's side in action at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.

The Mustang men finished the 10K competition in 23rd place with 513 points. Big West Athlete of the Year Daniel Gonia finished 92nd (30:52) to lead the club, while Evan Anderson was close behind him with a 101st place showing in 30:56. Joe Gatel was 129th (31:06), with Troy Swier (147th - 31:14) and Carl Dargitz (174th - 31:30) rounding out the top five for Cal Poly.

The Aggies had a pair of seniors in Kim Conley and Kaitlin Gregg compete in the 6K women's race. Conley was 80th (21:02), while Gregg placed 118th (21:20). They are the first UCD runners to qualify for the NCAA Division I Championships since Patti Gray in 1983.

Oregon won the men's title with  93 points while Washington won the women's title with 79 points. Sally Kipyego of Texas Tech won the women's title and Galen Rupp of Oregon claimed the men's crown.
