Pacific's Amber Simmons recorded her first career double-double en route to collecting her first Big West Women's Basketball Player of the Week accolade after guiding the Tigers to a 1-1 week.
Simmons played in her first competitive basketball in over a year and a half after sitting out last season due to transfer rules and missing the preseason with a broken hand. Despite the hand injury, the Chico, Calif., native made an immediate impact on the Division I level, scoring 17 points and grabbing eight rebounds in Pacific’s first contest at Oregon.
Simmons improved on her previous performance in Pacific's second outing of the week, tallying her first double-double of her career with 29 points and 12 rebounds against Northern Colorado. The 6-0 forward kept the Tigers close in the early goings, scoring 10 of the Tigers' first 12 points. Pacific went on to down the Bears, which had won its first two games of the year by a combined 60 points, 72-64.
For the week, Simmons shot .460 from the field and averaged 23 points and 10 rebounds per contest.
Others nominated: Lisa McBride (Cal Poly), Courtney Jacob (Long Beach State), Megan Richardson (Cal State Fullerton), Kemie Nkele (UC Riverside), Lauren Pedersen (UC Santa Barbara).
