A much cleaner, more inspired 49er team came to play in Fullerton Saturday night and the result was a 25-15, 25-22, 26-24 victory in three sets over Cal State Fullerton. Nicole Vargas had 35 assists and five kills, helping the 49ers to the Big West championship, their first since 2001.

UC Irvine Defeats Cal Poly to Finish Second in Big West
Four Anteaters recorded double-digit kills to lead UC Irvine to a 3-1 (20-25, 25-16, 26-24, 28-26) victory over Cal Poly Saturday to conclude the regular season. UCI won 10 of its last 12 matches to finish second in the Big West at 12-4 (17-12 overall), the second time the Anteaters have been the league runners-up in head coach Charlie Brande's nine-year tenure.

Pacific Concludes Big West Play with 3-0 Sweep At UC Davis
The Pacific women's volleyball team closed out the Big West season with a sweep of UC Davis, 3-0, on Saturday, Nov. 22. The victory moved Pacific to 11-15 overall and finished the Big West season with a 10-6 record. UC Davis closed the 2008 season with an 12-17 record and a 4-12 mark in conference. Set scores for the match: 25-18, 25-20 and 25-19.

Volleyball Ends Season With 3-1 Big West Win Over UC Riverside
Outside hitter Lauren McLaughlin finished her career on a high note, recording a match-high 21 kills to lead the UC Santa Barbara volleyball team to a 3-1 (16-25, 25-12, 25-23, 25-23) victory over Big West opponent UC Riverside on senior night Saturday at the Thunderdome. The Gauchos snapped a five-match losing streak with the win.
