UC Irvine midfielder Matt Murphy (Anaheim Hills, Calif./Mater Dei HS) was instrumental in a 2-0-0 week for the Anteaters which culiminated with UCI's first league crown and the top seed in the upcoming tournament.
The senior began his week with a five-point effort in UC Irvine's 3-1 home win over UC Riverside. He scored the first two goals of the match in the first 10 minutes, then assisted on another score to wrap up his day.
Murphy followed that effort with the first goal in the Anteaters' regular-season closing 2-1 win over Cal State Northridge on the road. His outstanding week gives him career-highs in goals (11) and points (29). He also set the UCI program record for career goals with his 33rd career score in the match against the Highlanders.
