Brittney Herzog led the Long Beach State 49ers to a perfect 3-0 record over three conference games last week to hold on to the top spot in the Big West Conference standings, earning her Big West Player of the Week honors. Herzog's first career weekly accolade is Long Beach State’s third honor of the 2008 season.
The Booneville, Mo., native, started the week with 11 kills on .579 hitting against Cal State Fullerton with seven blocks. Three days later she added six kills and four blocks in the sweep over UC Santa Barbara.
Herzog's best match came on the road against two-time defending champion Cal Poly, as she carried the team with a career-high 16 kills on .609 hitting. The 6-1 middle blocker led the team in kills and was the only 49er hitter over .200 hitting in the five-set win.
On the week, she hit .426 and tallied 33 kills while averaging 1.33 blocks per set.
