For the second time in three weeks, a Long Beach State athlete has been tabbed Big West Player of the Week with Quincy Verdin earning this week's accolade. This is the first weekly honor for the senior outside hitter, who led the 49ers to three wins.
In Tuesday's nonconference match against Notre Dame, Verdin set a career-high with 21 kills. After hitting .545 with 21 kills in a four-set win over the Fightin' Irish, Verdin was the star in two 3-0 conference wins over the weekend.
The Morgan City, La., native blasted a .500 hitting percentage and tallied 13 kills Friday evening against UC Davis. Verdin also added five digs and three blocks. The following night versus Pacific, Verdin hit .348 with 12 kills and three blocks.
For the week, she hit .474 and registered 10 blocks, while leading the 49ers in kills in all three matches.
