A season-best performance by Lauren Kellerman led UC Irvine to a 3-1 upset win over No. 24 Long Beach State and earned her Big West Player of the Week honors, for the week ending Oct. 19. This marks Kellerman's second weekly award of her career and first of the season for UC Irvine.
In Thursday's win over Long Beach State, the Escondido, Calif., native recorded a season-high 21 kills and a team-high 13 digs. The senior outside hitter committed just three errors in 48 swings to hit .375 for the match as UC Irvine snapped a six-match losing streak against the 49ers. It also marked just the seventh win all time for the Anteaters against Long Beach State.
Kellerman continued her hot hitting over the weekend, leading the Anteaters with 19 kills against Cal Poly and recording her second consecutive double-double match of the weekend with 13 digs. Kellerman hit .271 against the Mustangs to hit a combined .323 in weekend action. In eight sets, Kellerman averaged five kills and 3.25 digs per set.
