Two outstanding performances by junior Lisa McBride lifted the Cal Poly Mustangs to a 2-0 mark to open Big West play and earned her Big West Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors. Picking up her second accolade, McBride becomes the first recipient of multiple awards this season. The Tucson, Ariz., native kicked off the 2007-08 season with her first career player of the week honor.
McBride paced Cal Poly in both games against Cal State Northridge and Long Beach State, while also leading all players in the 49ers contest. In Thursday's matchup with the Matadors, she drained 20 points and collected nine rebounds. Two days later against the 49ers, the 6-1 forward registered 18 points and nine rebounds. In both games she missed making her first collegiate double-double by a single rebound.
For the week, McBride led Cal Poly in points (38), points per game (19.0), field goal percentage (.632), free throw percentage (.857), rebounds (18) and rebounds per game (9.0) as the Mustangs snapped a six-game losing streak and moved atop the conference standings.
Cal Poly carries its unblemished conference record into this week's action when the Mustangs, hosting their first home game in 29 days, welcome Cal State Fullerton to Mott Gym Thursday evening. Tipoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
