Henri Landes (San Anselmo, Calif.) clinched the victory for UC Davis for the third time in as many matches, winning in a second-set tiebreaker to earn Big West Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week honors.
UC Davis, which eked out a 4-3 home win against Buffalo on Jan. 21, needed Landes to win at the No. 2 singles spot and he responded with a 7-5, 7-6 victory over Kirill Kolomytes, winning the tiebreaker 7-2.
The Aggies, which went 5-13 a year ago, had their solid start rewarded when the Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll, released on Tuesday, revealed that UC Davis is ranked in a tie for No. 75.

Erynne Oki (North Hollywood, CA) captured Big West Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week honors after defeating the No. 61-ranked player by the ITA. Oki was the first UCR player to beat a singles player ranked that high since the school moved to Division I.
Oki outlasted San Diego State's Julia Trunk by a score of 6-4, 4-6 and 12-10 in the decisive third set. It was the only point for the Highlanders in the 6-1 loss to the No. 49-rated team in the nation on Saturday.
