Wilson Shines In Overtime, Earns Player Of The Week Nod

Guiding UC Santa Barbara to a 2-0 week in conference play, including a come-from-behind overtime win against Cal State Fullerton, earned senior Jessica Wilson Big West Women's Basketball Player of the Week accolades, for the week ending Jan. 13. This marks Wilson's first honor of the season, fourth of her career.

In Thursday's win over the UC Irvine Anteaters, she scored seven straight points during a decisive stretch in the waning minutes of the second half to give the Gauchos an 11-point lead with 1:29 remaining. The Sacramento, Calif., native concluded the night with 13 points, five rebounds and four steals.

In Saturday's come-from-behind victory over the Titans, Wilson scored 11 of her 17 points in the final four minutes of regulation and in overtime to help erase a 10-point UCSB deficit with 5:37 remaining. She tallied six of Santa Barbara's nine points in the extra session in grabbed six rebounds in overtime alone. The 5-10 guard finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds, recording her second double-double of the season and the ninth of her career.

Wilson averaged a team-high 15 points and 8.0 rebounds to lead the Gauchos to home victories over UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton, extending the Gauchos' win streak to five and improving their conference record to a perfect 4-0.

UC Santa Barbara returns to action Saturday, Jan. 19 when they visit central coast rival Cal Poly. The battle of the unbeatens, both 4-0 in Big West action, gets underway at 4:00 p.m. at Mott Gym.
