Cal State Fullerton junior defender Jenae Gibbens (San Diego, Calif./Mt. Carmel HS) anchored a stifling defense and shut down the main goal scoring threat in victories over No. 14 California and Oklahoma to garner Big West Women's Soccer Player of the Week honors.
Gibbens held California's leading goal scorer Caitlin Hannegan to just two shots in dealing the Golden Bears their first loss of the year, 2-1 in double overtime Friday. She spearheaded the effort that held Cal to a season-low nine shots.
Two days later, Gibbens was assigned Oklahoma's leading scorer Whitney Palmer, one of the Big 12 Conference's top scorers with four tallies on the year. Gibbens limited her to just one shot and was a key reason the Sooners attempted just five shots on the day, a season-low by a Fullerton opponent and tying a season low by the Sooners' offense. Oklahoma also failed to get a single shot on goal in the Titans' 2-0 victory.
