UC Irvine women's tennis head coach Mike Edles was named the Wilson/ITA West Region Coach of the Year after leading the Anteaters to their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance.

Edles, in his 11th season at UCI, led his squad to a 21-5 record on the year and a final national ranking of No. 35. UCI also posted a 7-0 record against Big West opponents to claim its first Big West regular season championship. The Anteaters parlayed that success into an NCAA Tournament at-large selection, marking the first time in league history that two schools were selection to postseason play. UCI joined Big West Tournament champion and automatic qualifier Long Beach State in the NCAAs.

The Anteaters recorded their most wins since 1983, and the 21 victories are the fourth-most in school history.
