Big West Spreads the Wealth for Weekly Softball Honors

After a week full of outstanding individual performances, it's no surprise that both of the the weekly Big West softball honors were given to more than one recipient.

Goldsand, Lupinetti Share Player of the Week Honors

Cal State Fullerton outfielder Lauren Lupinetti (Long Beach, Calif./St. John's University) and Pacific second baseman Casey Goldsand (Scottsdale, Ariz./Desert Mountain HS) where named Big West Co-Players of the Week for their efforts last week.

Lupinetti, a sophomore, hit .500 (5-10) in three games against Cal State Northridge to go along with a home run, four RBI and a run scored. Her three-run shot in the opener against the Matadors blew the game open and she recorded two multi-hit games in the three game series.

Goldsand, a sophomore, hit .400 (6-15) on the week for the Tigers, including a .444 (4-9) showing in the Tigers' conference series against UC Santa Barbara.

She kicked off her week with two hits and two RBI in an eight-inning 9-7 loss to Fresno State, then posted three RBI, two of them game-winners, against the Gauchos. She added a pair of walks and another multi-hit game against UCSB to her weekly totals.

Big Efforts in the Circle Net Engle and Hively Pitching Honors

Cal Poly pitcher Emily Hively (Fullerton, Calif./Troy HS) and Pacific pitcher Chelsea Engle (Folsom, Calif./Folsom HS) shared the Big West Pitcher of the Week awards after solid outings last week.

Hively, a senior, went the distance in her lone start of the week, a 3-0 win over Long Beach State. She scattered eight hits and struck out two to improve to 8-0 on the season, lowering her ERA to 1.53 in the process.

Engle, a sophomore, picked up a pair of wins and a save last week as the Tigers went 4-1.

She picked up a save against Fresno State, then picked up the first of her two wins over UC Santa Barbara after going eight innings and allowing just six hits, two runs (one earned) and striking out four. She picked up her second win after scattering two hits and striking out three in a complete game shutout win.
