No. 2 Long Beach State captured its fourth consecutive women's tennis title, and fifth in the last six years, with a 4-0 victory against No. 5 Cal Poly in the finals of the Big West Women's Tennis Championship at Indian Wells Tennis Garden Sunday.

The five championships for the 49er program is tied for second all-time in the Big West record book. The 49th-ranked 49ers have won 12 consecutive Big West Tournament matches and in beating Cal Poly, avenged their last tournament loss which occurred in the 2003 finals to the Mustangs.

LBSU did not lose a set in singles throughout the tournament in improving to 17-8 on the year. The 49ers await their selection and seeding for the 2007 NCAA Championships, with first and second matches taking place from May 11-13. The selection show will be broadcast on ESPNews on Tuesday, May 1 sometime between 2:30-3:00 p.m. (EDT).

The 49ers claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Katy Williams and Stephanie Bengson were 8-2 winners at No. 1 against Steffi Wong and Brittany Blalock. At No. 3, LBSU's Sandra Rocha and Rachael Porsz defeated Maria Malec and Diana Filip, 8-5.

Cal Poly challenged the 49ers at the top of the ladder in singles but could not come away with any points. LBSU made it 2-0 when Porsz won 6-3, 6-2 over Melissa Bradford at No. 6. Williams notched a hard-fought 7-5, 7-5 win against Wong at No. 2. Long Beach State sophomore Hannah Grady, ranked No. 114 in the nation, finished out the match with a 6-1, 7-5 triumph versus Blalock at No. 1.

The Mustangs conclude the 2007 season with a 9-12 record.
