Cal State Fullerton followed up its Big West opening sweep over UC Santa Barbara over the weekend with a sweep of the weekly awards as Jessica Doucette and Candice Baker claimed the honors.
Doucette Leads Fullerton to Conference-Opening Sweep over UCSB
Cal State Fullerton junior Jessica Doucette (El Segundo, Calif./University of Georgia) claimed her second Player of the Week award of the season after leading the Titans to a sweep over UC Santa Barbara in both squads' conference opener.
The infielder started off the week with a pair of hits and two runs scored in CSF's non-conference win over Loyola-Marymount, then kicked off conference play with a bang as she hit a game-winning homer in the top of the 10th inning of the opener against the Gauchos.
Doucette then followed up her game-winning blast with a 3-for-4 effort in game two which included another home run, three RBI and three runs scored. In the finale, she connected on another big fly and extended her hitting streak to five.
For the week, Doucette batted .421 (8-19) with three home runs, seven RBI, seven runs scored, two doubles and a walk.
Baker Goes 3-0 Against UC Santa Barbara
Cal State Fullerton senior Candice Baker (Buena Park, Calif./Cypress HS) claimed Pitcher of the Week honors after leading the Titans to a Big West opening sweep over UC Santa Barbara.
The pitcher picked up her first win in relief as she provided a perfect final two innings of the 10-inning marathon win over the Gauchos in the opener. In her game two start, Baker went the distance and allowed five hits, four runs (all coming in the final inning) and struck out five in an 11-4 win. Her final win came in game three after she went four innings and allowed three hits, no runs or walks and struck out seven.
For the week, Baker went 3-0 with a 2.15 ERA in 13.0 innings. She allowed eight runs, four runs and a walk while striking out 13 batters.
