Pacific senior outfielder Gina Carbonatto and Cal Poly sophomore pitcher Jenna Maiden claimed the Big West Player and Pitcher of the Week awards, respectively, after putting in solid performances for their clubs last week.
Carbonatto Does it All for Pacific during 5-1 Week
Pacific outfielder Gina Carbonatto (Lake Stevens, Wash./Lake Stevens HS) showcased her all-around game during a 5-1 week for the Tigers on the way to the Big West Player of the Week award.
The senior picked up two multiple hit games including a three hit effort in the first game of a doubleheader against Saint Mary's as well as a pair of base knocks against UNLV.
Carbonatto scored at least one run in five of her six contests last week and knocked in a run in four of the six Tiger games. Her best effort came against the Rebels as she went 2-for-3 with a homer, three RBI and two runs scored.
For the week, Carbonatto hit .421 (8-19) with a home run, eight RBI, scored six runs and stole two bases. She also had three multi-RBI games, stole two bases and threw out a runner at home in the first game against Saint Mary’s.
Maiden Delivers Herculean Effort against Saint Mary’s
Cal Poly pitcher Jenna Maiden (Santa Maria. Calif./Righetti HS) had an unbeliveable outing against Saint Mary's on the way to her first career Big West Pitcher of the Week honor.
The sophomore held the Gaels at bay until the Cal Poly offense came up with enough plays for the win. Maiden went all 10 innings, allowing just six hits, one run and one walk while striking out eight for the win.
She established a new personal best for strikeouts in a game and faced just eight batters over the minimum despite pitching all 10 innings.
