Peek Claims Second Career Big West Weekly Honor

Cal State Northridge catcher Amanda Peek (La Crescenta, Calif./Crescenta Valley HS) picked up her second weekly honor of her young collegiate career after leading the Matadors to a pair of wins over ranked foes at the Judi Garman Classic last weekend.

The sophomore set up a game-winning rally against #24 Florida State with a double, then scored on Micah Putnam’s go-ahead two run homer. She also hit the eventual game-winning home run against #12 Washington in the first inning, her sixth dinger of the year.

In addition to her heroics against the Seminoles and Huskies, Peek was the only CSUN player to reach base in all five of the Matadors' games at the Garman.

For the week, Peek hit .600 (10-16) with a home run, two RBI, scored three runs and walked twice.

Davis Dominates New Mexico State on the way to Weekly Pitching Honor

UC Santa Barbara pitcher Jennifer Davis (Whittier, Calif./California HS) shut down the New Mexico State offense in the first game of the Gauchos' doubleheader against the Aggies on the way to the Big West Pitcher of the Week award.

The senior allowed just two hits, no runs and struck out 12 on the way to a complete game win over NMSU. Davis' 12 strikeouts tied her season-high and was nearly half of the batters she faced. With her third shutout win of 2007, Davis is now 3-5 but possesses a league-low 0.97 ERA.
