Cal Poly became the first school this season to sweep the weekly Player and Pitcher of the Week awards as the Mustangs' Lisa Modglin and Robyn Kontra were honored, respectively.
Cal Poly's Modglin All Over the Basepaths in Mustangs' 4-1 Week
Cal Poly outfielder Lisa Modglin (Simi Valley, Calif./Simi Valley HS) picked up multiple hits in three of the Mustangs' five games last week at the Palm Springs Classic en route to the Big West Player of the Week award.
The senior started her week off with a bang as she hit a leadoff homer in Cal Poly’s 2-0 win over UNLV. Later in the day, she went 3-for-4 with another home run, four RBI and two runs scored in the Mustangs' 15-3 mercy rule win over Virginia.
After picking up another hit and scoring a run in the 3-2 loss to #7 Northwestern, she finished up her time at the Palm Springs Classic by going 4-for-6 with another homer, two RBI and three runs scored.
For the week, Modglin hit .600 (9-15) with three home runs, seven RBI, scored seven runs and walked three times. She also posted a 1.267 slugging percentage and was the only Mustang to hit safely in all five games last week.
Cal Poly's Kontra Shuts Down the Opposition at the Palm Springs Classic
Cal Poly pitcher Robyn Kontra (Valencia, Calif./Hart HS) was exceptional in two starts at the Palm Springs Classic for the Mustangs to claim Big West Pitcher of the Week accolades.
The junior hurler started the Mustangs' first game at the tourney and threw an absolute gem, going the distance and striking out eight while allowing just three hits and two walks in Cal Poly's 2-0 win.
Her other start came against Illinois-Chicago in the finale of the Palm Springs Classic. She allowed three hits, a walk and an unearned run while striking out seven in a complete game 4-1 win over the Flames.
For the week, Kontra posted a 0.00 ERA in 14.0 innings, striking out 15, walking three and allowing one unearned run. She faced six batters over the minimum in her two starts and lowered her season ERA to 1.83.
