Cal Poly senior Derek Stockalper (Carlsbad, CA/Mira Costa College) earned Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors for the first time in his career after delivering one of the best individual performances in the league this season.

Stockalper, a 6-5 forward, poured in a career-high 37 points on 13-of-20 shooting to lead the Mustangs to a 92-87 win over Portland State in a home O'Reilly ESPNU Bracket Buster game on Saturday. He put on a remarkable exhibition from long distance, hitting a career-high and school record nine three-pointers (in 14 attempts). The 37 points was the second-most scored by a Big West player this season. Stockalper added four rebounds and four assists.

The week began with Stockalper hounding Central Coast rival UC Santa Barbara, propelling the Mustangs to an 86-79 victory on the strength of 19 points and seven rebounds. He made eight of 12 floor shots, including 3-of-6 from three-point territory. Cal Poly clinched a sweep of UCSB for the first time in nine years.

For the week, Stockalper averaged 28.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in the two wins. He shot 65.6% (21-of-32) from the field and 60.0% (12-of-12) from beyond the arc.
