Pacific junior guard
Steffan Johnson (Kent, Wash./Kent Meridian HS) picked up the first Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week accolades of the 2007-08 season for his performances in the first two games of the World Vision Invitational, which included one of the top single-game assist efforts in school history.
Johnson led the Tigers to a 90-75 win on Saturday against Western Michigan as he handed out 12 assists, tying for the third-best single-game mark in the Pacific record book. Johnson's play making helped the Tigers shoot a sizzling 58.7% (27-of-46) from the field. He added 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting as Pacific won its season opener for the fifth straight year.
He came up just one point shy of his career high, scoring 22 points in an 80-64 loss to host and No. 12-ranked Oregon on Saturday. Johnson hit 9-of-16 floor shots, including 3-of-7 from three-point range, while adding three rebounds and five assists to his stat line.
For the week, Johnson averaged 19.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 8.5 assists per game while shooting 64.0% (16-of-25) overall and 60.0% (6-of-10) from three-point range.
