Atherstone Earns Her Sixth Weekly Honor Of The Season

For the sixth time this season and third time in four weeks, Cal Poly's Kylie Atherstone was named Big West Women's Volleyball Player of the Week, for the week ending Nov. 11. With this honor Atherstone collects her ninth weekly accolade and ties Long Beach State's Danielle Scott (1990-93) and Pacific’s Else Stegemann (1995-96, 98-99) for most player of the week awards.

In Thursday's 3-1 win over UC Santa Barbara, the 6-1 junior posted a career-high 32 kills and averaged 8.00 kills per game. Her .455 hitting percentage also led the Mustangs squad. Two days later she guided Cal Poly to its 10th straight win after recording her team-leading 13th double-double of the season agianst UC Riverside. The Chico, Calif., native blasted 23 kills and collected 11 digs, while boasting a .326 clip.

For the week, she fired a .398 hitting percentage and averaged 6.88 kills per game. Atherstone led the Mustang sqaud in hitting percentage in both matches and her 55 kills were 20 more than the second-highest Mustang.

Sitting atop the Big West perch with a 13-1 conference mark, Cal Poly needs to pick up just one win over the next two matches to earn its second consecutive Big West Conference title. Owning a perfect 6-0 record in the familiar confines of Mott Gym, the Mustangs have the pleasure of closing out the regular at home this weekend against UC Riverside, 2-12 in the Big West, and UC Irvine (10-4).
