Hitting a .380 clip and guiding the nationally-ranked Cal Poly Mustangs to a 2-0 week earned Kylie Atherstone Big West Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week for the eighth time in her career. Atherstone, who now ranks second all-time for most weekly awards, becomes just the second player to garner five Big West Player of the Week accolades in one season. Long Beach State's Danielle Scott mastered this feat during the 49ers run to the Final Four in 1992.
In Friday's 3-1 win over Pacific, Atherstone tied her second-best career total in kills with 26, while collecting 16 digs to complete a double-double. The following night Atherstone's .382 hitting percentage lifted the Mustangs to a 3-1 win over UC Davis and improved their record to 5-0 at Mott Gym. The Chico, Calif., native recorded her second double-double of the week with 16 kills and 12 digs. She also added two aces and two block assists on the night. For the week, Atherstone averaged 6.00 kills and 4.00 digs per game and blasted a .380 hitting percentage.
Playing three of their final five matches at home, the Mustangs are back in action Saturday, Nov. 3 when they visit Cal State Fullerton for their lone match of the week.
Others nominated: Alexis Crimes (LBSU), Kristin Kelley (UCI), Leigh Stephenson (UCSB).
