Long Beach State senior Aaron Nixon (Cleveland, OH/San Bernardino Valley College) collected his second Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week honor this season after a phenomenal effort against then league-leading UC Santa Barbara.
The 6-2 guard netted 35 points and rained down seven three-pointers in a 101-65 win over the Gauchos in LBSU's Big West opener. His previous career-high of 33 points was set against UC Davis last year. Nixon made 13-of-19 from the field overall and went 7-for-9 from three-point range. He added four rebounds and three assists in 27 minutes of action. The seven made threes was just one off the school record for a game.
Nixon struggled from the field with a 3-for-18 shooting performance, but still scored 12 points to go along with seven rebounds, three assists and two steals in the 49ers' 77-70 triumph over Cal Poly on Saturday. He hit 4-of-6 from the free throw line against the Mustangs.
For the week, Nixon averaged 23.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. He shot 43.2 percent (16-for-37) from the field and a sizzling 56.3 percent (9-of-16) from three-point range. Nixon made six of his eight free throw attempts.
