UC Irvine's Yovan Helps Anteaters Defeat Nationally Ranked BYU

UC Irvine senior Aaron Yovan (Irvine, CA) collected Big West Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honors with his 7-5, 6-4 victory over Brigham Young’s James Ludlow. Yovan’s win at No. 1 singles helped the Anteaters clinch a 4-3 win over the No. 73-ranked Cougars.

Yovan, a transfer from UCLA, also won with partner Mustafa Ulukan at No. 1 doubles, defeating the BYU duo of Ludlow and Dominik Kaufhold 9-7. Ludlow is ranked No. 10 in singles in the Mountain Region, while Ludlow and Kaufhold are the No. 2 regionally ranked team in doubles.

UC Irvine's Bernhard Pulls Off Upset Of Top 25 Opponent

UC Irvine junior Becky Bernhard (Roseville, CA) earned Big West Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week accolades with a pair of wins at No. 1 singles, including a conquest of an opponent ranked in the top 25 of the FILA Collegiate Tennis Rankings.

Bernhard defeated No. 22-ranked Bianca Dulgheru of Pepperdine by a 6-1, 6-3 score on Friday, clinching UCI's only point in the 6-1 loss to the Waves, which are ranked 14th in the nation. On Saturday, Bernhard won her third consecutive singles match as she downed San Francisco's Camille Pamart 6-0, 7-6. The Anteaters went on to sweep the Dons 7-0 for the win.
