UC Santa Barbara’s Stephanie Rothstein garners Athlete of the Week honors after an excellent performance at the Roy Griak Invitational.

Rothstein, a senior from Phoenix, AZ, took home the individual crown at the prestigious meet after completing the 6K course in 21:12.45. Her time was .5 seconds better than teammate Lauren Christman.

Rothstein, who sat out last season as a redshirt, becomes the first Gaucho runner to win the Griak, a race in which on six occasions the individual champion has won the NCAA individual crown.

Seven Squads Compete in Busy Week of Action

Seven of the eight Big West squads will be in competition this week as the calendar nears October.

UC Riverside will be the lone squad to host a meet as the Highlanders welcome a litany of schools, including conference foe Cal State Northridge for the 26th annual UCR Invitational. The men’s race will be an 8K, while the women will compete in a 5K.

Cal Poly, Cal State Fullerton, Long Beach State, UC Irvine and Pacific will head to Palo Alto for the Stanford Invitational. There will be 29 team entries for the 8K men’s race, while the women’s competition has 18 team entries for the 6K. The Mustangs will also head to Eugene, OR for the Bill Dellinger Invitational Friday.
