In UC Santa Barbara's four matches at the USD Invitational, Jamie Garbisch averaged 4.79 kills per game for a .268 hitting percentage, earning her all-tournament team honors and Big West Volleyball Player of the Week accolades, for the week ending Sept. 17.
The 5-11 outside hitter guided the Gauchos to a 2-2 record last week, including a five-game triumph over No. 11 Wisconsin. In the upset win, Garbisch averaged nearly seven points a game, while posting a career-high 31 kills and adding 15 digs. The Anaheim, Calif., native secured a trio of double-doubles after adding two more against Brown and No. 16 Ohio.
For the week, she knocked down 67 kills, while collecting 47 digs and seven block assists. This is Garbisch's first conference honor of the season, along with UC Santa Barbara's first recognition.
The Gauchos return to the court this week to play their first contests of the year in The Thunderdome as they host UC Davis and conference-foe No. 23 Cal Poly. UCSB finished the 2005 season with a perfect home record (8-0) for the first time in program history and will carry a 15-match home winning streak into this week's action.
