Cal Poly sophomore designated player Sarah Iwata (Torrance, CA/Torrance HS) garnered Big West Softball Player of the Week honors as five of her eight hits went for extra bases, helping the Mustangs to a 3-3 record at the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament.

Iwata batted .533 (8-for-15) with four runs scored and two RBI as the Mustangs played doubleheaders against No. 4 UCLA, Santa Clara and San Jose State.

She had hits in each of the two games against the Bruins, including a solo home run in the first game of the twinbill. She went 3-for-5 in the doubleheader versus the Broncos, knocking in one of her two runs in a 9-8 game one victory. She added a pair of doubles and scored a run in the 7-3 game two setback. Against the Spartans, Iwata had hits in three of her six at bats, including her fourth double of the tournament. Iwata also drew five walks for the week.

UC Santa Barbara junior Jennifer Davis (Whittier, CA/California HS) was named Big West Softball Pitcher of the Week after coming up with the biggest performance of her career, shutting out No. 5 Stanford 2-0 at the Worth Invitational.

Davis stifled the Cardinal bats, allowing only three hits, walking none and fanning nine. The win was the first over a ranked opponent this season.

Although she was saddled with the loss in her other two appearances at the Worth Invitational, Davis still pitched well enough to win. Against No. 9 Oregon State, the right-hander allowed only four hits and struck out six, but got no run support in a 4-0 loss. In the tournament finale against Purdue, Davis threw a complete eight innings and surrendered five runs (three earned) while striking out five. The Gauchos lost 5-3 to the Boilermakers.

For the week, Davis struck out 20 batters in 21.0 innings of work.
