UC Santa Barbara senior Cecil Brown (Canoga Park, CA/Canoga Park HS) provided his team with a spark down the stretch in a pair of conference road wins to gain Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors.
The 6-4 guard was instrumental in victories over two of the top teams in the Big West. In Thursday's 60-59 triumph over Big West leader UC Irvine, Brown scored seven points in the final three minutes, including a three-pointer and a pair of acrobatic two-point baskets. On Saturday, Brown contributed five points in the final three minutes, hitting a key three-pointer with 1:12 to play and helping UCSB outscore the 49ers 11-2 in crunch time for an 81-78 win.
For the week, Brown averaged 18.5 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. He shot 46.4 percent (13-of-28) from the field and 41.7 percent (5-of-12) from three-point range. He had 14 points, two rebounds and two assists in 32 minutes against the Anteaters. Brown poured in 23 points with a pair of rebounds and assists versus LBSU, making 7 of 14 from the field, including a trio of threes.
